Uh, I have never thought about this topic. Though the average of my grades is 90 out of 100, as a junior high student, I don't like to take any exams at all. Frankly, the major disadvantage of modern school exam system in China gives students no choice. Whether we like them or not, we have to pass certain exams for meeting our educational and career goals.
All teachers recognize that modern school exams can be used to assess students' achievement. However, many Chinese educators and parents feel that overuse and misuse of these exams can create disadvantages which often cause negative consequences on teaching and learning.
Here are my examples of disadvantages in China's modern educational exam system. Our students may not be motivated to do well on exams. The fees of certain exams, such as CET, BEC, TOFL, etc, may be too expensive for many of our students. In addition, many exams tend to be generic and not well focused on specific skills or competencies. Our exams do not reflect what has been taught and do not capture all the learning that has taken place in the classrooms. Moreover, many exams focus on pencil and paper tasks and do not provide opportunities for literacy learners to show what they can do in real life.

Last and certainly not least, our Chinese educators have placed the concerns of validity and reliability within broader contexts, when they develop standards and make overall judgments about the quality of our exams. I certainly hope that our nation's educational system will gradually eliminate disadvantages in exams!
